How to Set Your Paid Content Prices¶
Set what an organization pays to send a press release to your Outlet or your Group, set your correction fee, and decide which public-service organizations can reach you free of charge, all from the Paid Content tab in Wire settings. Your prices are how Inbox generates new revenue for your newsroom, and a Group price lets you work with other newsrooms to monetize distribution together.
Before You Begin¶
You must be an Outlet administrator to set your Outlet's prices, or a Group administrator to set Group-wide prices. Members without admin permission won't see the settings described below. Ask your administrator if you're not sure which role you have.
You will need:
- An Outlet or Group you administer on Wire (see Manage members for how roles work)
A Note About Early Access
Prices you set here are saved and shown to you, but during early access no money changes hands: senders see a "Free during beta" badge instead of your price, and your Outlet pays nothing to use Inbox. We plan to enable payments once we've fine-tuned the platform and confirmed exactly how newsrooms want to offer this service to their communities. We really appreciate your help improving Inbox.
Instructions¶
Open the Paid Content Tab¶
-
Go to Settings (https://wire.pluckyworks.org/settings/) and select your Outlet (or your Group, for Group-wide prices) from the sidebar.
-
Click the Paid Content tab.
Until you save for the first time, the panel shows platform defaults, marked "Showing platform defaults — not yet saved for this outlet."
Set Your Outlet's Prices¶
The Outlet panel is headed "Paid Content", with the caption "Set the price a distributor pays to send a press release to your outlet directly."
| Field | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Direct price | Required | The dollar amount an organization pays to send a press release to your Outlet on its own, outside any group purchase. Priced too high relative to the group rate, and senders will buy the group instead. |
| Correction fee | Optional | The dollar amount charged per correction submitted to your Outlet. Leave blank to use the platform default (shown on the form). |
| Public-service exempt | Optional | Check to let organizations flagged as Public Service (nonprofits, government offices, and similar) reach your Outlet without being charged. |
Click Save paid content settings. A "Paid Content settings saved." confirmation appears.
Set Your Group's Prices¶
For Group administrators, the Group-level panel has the same correction-fee and public-service controls, plus two Group-specific fields:
| Field | Required? | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Group price | Required | The single dollar amount an organization pays to reach every Outlet in your Group at once. |
| Revenue split | Required | How the group price is divided among your Outlets. Even split is currently the only option. "Weighted by reach" is listed but marked coming soon. |
Click Save paid content settings here too. The Outlet and Group panels save independently.
Review Public Service Requests¶
Below the price settings, the Public service requests section lists organizations asking to reach you free of charge. Each request shows the organization's name, website, contact details, description, and any comments they added.
- Under Pending review, click Approve to grant the exemption or Disapprove to turn it down.
- Under Granted, click Revoke to withdraw an exemption you previously approved.
- Under Declined or revoked, click Approve to change your mind and grant it after all.
What Happens Next¶
- Your prices appear to every organization choosing distribution targets: they see the exact cost of reaching your Outlet or Group before they commit.
- A Group price covers every Outlet in the Group, and the revenue is divided among those Outlets by the split you chose.
- Once you approve a public-service request, that organization sends to you without charge until you revoke the exemption. Check back on the Public service requests section periodically: pending requests wait for your decision.
Next Steps¶
- Find and download press releases: where the releases you're pricing actually arrive
- Set up your Inbox site: for pilot newsrooms running their own branded submission site
Troubleshooting¶
- I don't see the Paid Content tab: Either you don't have admin permission for this Outlet or Group, or Inbox isn't enabled for your platform yet. Check with your Group administrator, or email hello@pluckyworks.org.
- The prices show but say "platform defaults": You haven't saved yet. The panel shows the defaults until you click Save paid content settings for the first time.
- A sender says they weren't charged my price: No one is charged while Inbox is in early access; your saved prices take effect when billing turns on.
- Still stuck? Email support@pluckyworks.org.
